Tuba Christmas 2005
Several members from the low brass section of GCS performed in the annual Tuba Christmas concert at Williams Tower. The event was Saturday, December 17th at noon.
The concert is usually outside at the base of the tower (the tallest building in Houston) facing a picturesque park and a large waterwall reminiscent of Niagara Falls (only much smaller). However, due to the wind and rain, the concert was held in a nearby parking garage. If you think 200+ tubas and euphoniums is loud outside you ought to hear them in a parking garage!! In the immortal words of Charlie Brown, "good grief."
Most GCS members played on G Bugles including Deg and Kanstul Baritones, a King K90 2-Valve Contra, and a Kanstul Contra Grande. We had several inquiries about the horns and may have recruited some new members.
All-in-all we had a great time, despite the weather and acoustics. We're all looking forward to Tuba Christmas 2006.
