GCS Marched on Turkey Day

For the first time in our history, Gulf Coast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps marched in Houston’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade, sponsored by Washington Mutual. With a complement of 15 brass, 11 percussion, and 10 guard, the Corps made a great showing for the thousands lining the streets of Downtown Houston and television audiences throughout the region. KHOU-TV, Channel 11 carried the parade live and rebroadcast it twice. In addition to coverage during the parade itself, the Corps appeared in a pre-parade program introducing various units participating in the event. Channel 11’s John Walton, who earlier this year featured GCS on his morning news segment “Walton’s World”, interviewed Corps Director, Jason Rose, while the corps played in the background. Jason took the opportunity to stress that we are a drum and bugle corps and to point viewers to our website. The Corps hopes that our appearance in the parade and on television reached drum corps enthusiasts who, learning that Houston has an all-age Corps, may be interested in marching with us during the 2006 season. Immediately following the parade, the Corps dismissed and reformed inside the George R. Brown Convention Center to play a concert for the guests and volunteers at the annual Feast of Sharing organized by the Citywide Club and sponsored by HEB. GCS had much to be thankful for this year. We finished the 2005 season with the best performance in our history. Our great staff has design an exciting and challenging show for the 2006 season. We had new members marching in all sections for the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
