2005-2006 Open House
The 2006 season officially began with the Open House on Saturday, November 12th. The Corps is well on it's way to fielding 65 members this season.
All sections were very comfortable with the new and returning staff members. There's been considerable growth in the hornline and drumline. We expect the guard to grow slowly during the winter and take off in the spring once the winter guard programs are finished and the student members return. However, there were several adult members of the guard on hand and several more on the way.
After lunch and a few general announcements, the Corps broke up into sectionals to warm-up and work on the music for the Washington Mutual Thanksgiving Day parade that will be in Downtown Houston. This will be the Corps first appearance and we're very excited to be a part of this long-time Houston tradition.
Patrick Sloan, returning Drill Writer and now Co-Program Coordinator, worked with the Corps doing several exercises designed to teach us how to "perform" while performing our show. He was also able to touch on the new marching style that GCS is adopting. After just a very few minutes the Corps was looking far better than we ever have, and it's only going to get better!
The afternoon concluded with each section performing for the others in "show-n-tell" fashion. Although far from perfect, the accomplishments of just a few short hours of rehearsing we're astounding. The December 10th camp promises to be equally exciting as we begin working on the show music for 2006.
There are still spots available in all percussion sections, most brass sections, and the Guard. If you are interested in being an integral part of a dynamic all-age Corps that is on the move, please email the Corps today.
