Gulf Coast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps
October 5th, 2005
2006 Staff Press Release
David Breitwieser, former Director of Fundraising, has been appointed to the newly created Business Manager position. He will be assisted by Michele Rose. Dave and Michele have both proven to be highly competent and business savvy staff members with the aptitude to continue managing a rapidly growing organization.
Assistant Director Marc Sanders has accepted a new position which has relocated him to California. GCS is losing one of the most influential members in our brief history. Marc helped design the infrastructure necessary to grow GCS from an indoor "Winter Corps" to a competitive Class-A corps in two short years. His previous experience managing and performing with other corps was an invaluable asset to a largely rookie staff. His insight and wisdom enabled GCS to grow and mature far more rapidly than would have been possible otherwise. On behalf of the all the staff and members, "Thank You, Marc!"
David Bolzman, our Executive Director, has moved into the Program Coordinator position. Dave has been deeply involved in GCS since our inaugural year and has filled many roles in the past 4 years. He currently works with several area high school bands in Houston and Southeast Texas, as well as conducting clinics throughout the United States, and has more than 20 years of experience designing and teaching marching band and winter guard shows. He was drum major and played percussion for the Saginaires Drum & Bugle Corps during his junior corps days. This promotion is a natural progression. Dave will be assisted on a part-time basis by local high school band director and DCI judge, Daniel Galloway.
Gulf Coast Sound has established a trend of promoting from within whenever possible. In the wake of Marc leaving us, many relatively new members are assisting long-time vets and have stepped up to the challenge and taken on new responsibilities.
Darrin Schrontz (Baritone) and Michelle Dorsey (Guard) have been appointed to the newly created Tour Director position. Together, they will plan all aspects of the multitude of weekend tours the Corps takes during the summer competition season. Both Darrin and Michelle are returning for their second year.
Mark Todd, second year member and baritone player, has assumed the role of Director of Fundraising. Mark brings a great deal of enthusiasm to the position and has jumped in with both feet. One his primary responsibilities is the Corps newest fundraising venture: working with CSC at Houston Texans football games and other events at Reliant Stadium.
Teresa Cupp has been promoted to Head Drum Major for the 2006 season. Teresa will also be returning as Brass Caption Head and is looking forward to starting the season in this capacity. She'll be ably assisted by baritone player Alan Macon. Both Alan and Teresa are students at the University of Houston and are majoring in music. Tom Huntley, Scott Miller, and Jason Rose will also assist as Brass Techs.
Patrick Sloan will once again be writing the drill and is actively assisting with the show design and concept. Also assisting with show design and music writing is Chris Green. Both of these gentlemen are of the highest caliber and continue to do amazing things for GCS. Chris Kupsco, Gary Westbrook, and Jason Rose are returning as Battery Percussion music writer, Pit Percussion music writer, and Brass Arranger, respectively.
Ronnie Alexander (snare) and Jon Large (snare) are returning as Percussion Coordinators. They are energetic and ready to assist the Caption Head in whatever capacity is needed.
The Corps is currently seeking a Percussion Caption Head and a Color Guard Caption Head. If you are interested in a dynamic all-age Corps that is on the move, please email the Corps today.
