The Word Around the Corps
Pool and Dart tournament Fundraiser a Success!
On January 15th Gulf Coast Sound hosted a Pool and Dart Tournament at a local bar with great success. The Corps made over $200 and had a great time doing it. The local bar, "Decades", was generous enough to allow us to use their facility free of charge.
The pool tournament turned out to be single elimination with fifteen people entering. We had a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize. The tournament lasted an hour and thirty minutes and went smoothly. Congratulations to the winners.
We had five people enter in our Dart Tournament and two of the people entered were Corps members. I have never played darts before, but by the end of the tournament I knew quite well how the game was played. The 1st Place Winner of the contest was one of the bar tenders. 2nd Place went to a player from the bar, and 3rd place went to one of our very own.
During the course of the night we had a 50/50 raffle going on. The tickets went three for a dollar, five dollars for a measure of tickets once around someone's chest, or a measure from the inside of your pant leg to floor. We collected one hundred dollars and the lucky winner of the contest got to go home with a whopping fifty dollars. We also sold hot dogs for $0.75 and they sold fast.
After we had finished with the tournament and raffle the group of people who came to help got to kick back and relax and just have a good time. Some us played a game of pool and some played shuffle board. We played music, talked, and had a great time. I know that if another fundraiser like that is scheduled again I'll be there!!
I want to say on behalf of the fundraising committee thank you to every member of GCS that showed up and helped us out. Also, special thanks to "Decades" for letting us use their facility. And, a big thanks to all the people who participated in the tournaments, the 50/50 raffle, and that made donations to the Corps.
