Gulf Coast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps

The Word Around the Corps
January 8th was the first all day corps rehearsal for Gulf Coast Sound this season. The horn-line worked up two great pieces, the drumline had a smokin' cadence, and the guard moved like ballerinas on a cloud.
Hearing the wonderful music of "Dust in the Wind" played by the hornline sent goose bumps down my spine. Being able to sing along with the horns gave me the greatest feeling. I know the crowd will love and remember this chart. They also played a new warm up called "Krypton Fanfare". It was gorgeous! The hornline played both songs with such skill and heart, if someone were to be walking by they would have no choice but to stop and listen!
On another note, the Drumline worked very hard on their cadence. Most of the drummers were even practicing through breaks. It almost seemed like they never stopped, but in the end it paid off. The cadence sounded great, like they had been playing together for years. I am looking forward to hearing the music that the drummers will be playing with hornline in the coming rehearsals.
The guard put together two pieces of work: "Bring Me To Life" and "Dust in the Wind." They worked very hard in learning the movement to "Bring Me To Life." Some of the new concepts (such as body movement) were very new to several of the people in the group. However, with some practice and determination everyone managed to learn and perfect the new moves. They also added some new movement to "Dust in the Wind" (learned at the last 2 camps) as well as a lot of very challenging flag work. We have a great tech and great teachers to help us through the rough parts and in the end had it just about perfect.
At the end of the day we all showed the other sections what we had worked on all day. Everyone was amazed at how much everyone else had accomplished. The Corps is on the road toward having an excellent show this year. I can see us going all the way to the top.
