Gulf Coast Sound (Winter) Drum & Bugle Corps
The Gulf Coast Sound Senior (Winter) Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased
to announce that we are fielding a 'Winter Corps' for the 2001-2002
Winter Guard season. GCS is a member of the Gulf Coast Drum Corps
Associates along with the Bayou City Blues Senior Drum & Bugle Corps,
based out of Houston, TX.
Gulf Coast Sound has teamed up with the MCM Winter Guard from the
University of Houston and will be performing and competing in Winter
Guard International and the Texas Color Guard Circuit. Rather than
using traditional types of recorded music or a percussion ensemble,
MCM has chosen to incorporate a full Drum & Bugle Corps to
provide the music as well as additional visual elements.
The horn line is playing on G Bugles, rather than marching band
horns, and is comprised of 4 Sopranos, 2 Mellophones, 2 Baritones,
1 Euphonium, and 2 Contrabasses. The horn line will march and do
drill in conjunction with the guard.
The percussion section will consist of 1 or 2 people playing on a
drum set and assorted pit style instrumentation. In the future we
would like to use battery percussion with a small 1 or 2 man pit.
But for the sake of simplicity we chose to use a drum set this year.
