Mardi Gras 2011

Postby Corey Mark » Mon Jan 17, 2011 1:13 pm

It's that time of year again to call out all GCS family, alumni, and friends to participate in our Mardi Gras festivities.

February 26 is the date for the Mardi Gras Galveston parade. We'll meet at the Walmart at Seawall Blvd. and Central City Blvd. at 3pm. Parade step off is at 6pm.

The weekend of March 4 - 6 we will be traveling to New Orleans for a weekend of parades. Travel from Houston and hotel rooms will be provided for free to all participants. More information will be available as we get closer.

Please let us know if you will be attending either of these events. We'll make sure that you've got everything you need to have a great time.

Chel and I are good for Galveston. Haven't missed one in 12 years!

We're still on the fence about NOLA because that's the weekend of our Anniversary. As much as I love the Corps, sometimes you gotta do marriage maintenance...

How about we give you a room to yourselves in NOLA and we sit outside and serenade you with drinking songs all night?

I didn't know GCS was coming to NOLA this year. I was planning on sitting out Mardi Gras this year and just set up some drums along the parade route and heckle the marching units as they pass by kind of like those kids tried doing us in '07 until they were shut down.

Corey, I have a new number and will be calling you very soon.

As an update, we have cancelled the New Orleans trip and are currently planning on doing both weekends in Galveston. I am still waiting on specifics for March 5th, but we have been offered and accepted a position in that parade. Details to follow.

Talk about going green. Bummer about NOLA, it should be quite warm in March. It'll be a shame to miss it. ;)

Which is the shorter Galveston parade? Not as good as I once was and that whole 6 to 8 hours of driving in addition to a parade is not for the meek. Also what horn is coming up short numbers wise? Maybe I can try to actually memorize the music this year. If I have the music and know what part I'll be playing.
