Report on Second Thursday Sectional

Postby Jason Rose » Fri Oct 09, 2009 6:47 am

5 Sops
-4 Vets
-1 Rookie
-Missing 2 Vets and 2 Rookies

2 Mellos
-2 Vets
-Missing 1 Vet and 1 Rookie

5 Baris/Euphs
-5 Vets
-Missing 2 Rookies

3 Contras
-3 Vets
-Missing 1 Vet and 1-2 Rookies

3 Percussionists - all were on drums sets. We actually ensembled with THREE DRUM SETS!! Never seen that done before. It was ... interesting ... and a tad loud.

These numbers may not sound good, but the quality of the rehearsal was very high. The numbers will grow as we progress and bring in new staff members. 7 major recruiting events are scheduled between now and Christmas. The first is this weekend. Please check the calendar on the website. These are all performances (not just booths) and we need everyone to help us!

Simon (brass tech) is doing a great job and the hornline is learning fundamentals that will pay off down the road with BIG results.

The Percussion and Guard sections are going to grow more slowly. Tom is still very much in the hunt for those staff members and a few leads are VERY promising. Things are going to start happening soon in those sections. Hang in there Amanda!

Please try to make these sectionals. They're a lot of fun and we're getting a lot done.

GCS 2010 is NOT GCS 2009 or even 2008. In a lot of ways we're picking up where we left off in 2007. The ball is advancing and the bar is being raised.

COME, be a part of it.

Give it some time. It takes a while to get used to a horn that size.

When I marched Bluecoats, most of the contras had a very noticeable lump on our shoulders - take a look at Everett or Simon's neck sometime - you can tell they have played Sousaphone a lot...

Contra/Sousa humps brings all da ladies.

Actually, it apparently is a nice pillow. =/

If it really bothers you, grab some weights, have your upper arm parallel to the ground, your elbow at a 90 degree angle, and push up and down. Do a bunch of reps like this, be sure to breathe and such. I did this for a while and it decreased in size. Then I remembered I am a low brass player and I'm lazy, so I stopped. :P

I was thinking he could store water in it during long camp afternoons in the summer! ;)
