News and Updates from the Corps Management Team

2010 Section Leaders

Postby Jason Rose » Tue Oct 06, 2009 9:23 am

This is an open call for anyone interested in being a GCS Section Leader. There are 4 positions available: Percussion, High Brass, Low Brass, Color Guard.

Please read the job description below. If you're interested contact Tom for an interview. Of course our current Section Leaders may re-apply if they're interested.

This is a big job and makes a huge difference in how the Corps operates. Please seriously consider the workload before applying. I'm shifting a LOT of responsibility AND authority from the senior management team to the Section Leaders this year.

Section Leaders
The Sections Leaders role is multifaceted. Listed below are areas of responsibility:

1) Information Dissemination: Weekly/bi-monthly phone calls to all section members. NOT JUST EMAILS.
a. It is imperative that we build strong relationships within the Corps
b. Phone calls are far more intimate than emails

2) Discipline: Must maintain order during rehearsals and performances.
a. This is an extension of the Drum Majors duties

3) Drill Tech: When learning and cleaning drill all Section Leaders MUST have a full set of drill sheets on their person and MUST assist the visual staff in setting spots, cleaning drill, and troubleshooting

4) Dues: Sectional Leaders must assist the Finance Manager in collecting dues
a. This ties in with the weekly/bi-monthly phone calls

5) Uniforms: Section Leaders must ensure that each section member has been fitted for a uniform jacket and shako and has ordered/owns shoes, bibbers, gloves, and any other items that are needed.
a. The Operations Manager will do the actual fittings

6) Recruiting: When potential members contact the Corps their information will be added to the database by the Recruiting Director. It is then Section Leaders job to contact that person and invite them to a rehearsal or performance. Either the Rec Dir or the Corps Director will forward emails to the Section Leaders.

7) Budget: Section Leaders (along with the Caption Heads) work with the Corps Director and Finance Manager to determine how to best spend money for their respective Sections.

8) GCS Star: In recognition for all of this effort the Section Leaders have the honor of awarding the GCS Star to the new members.

As far as I'm concerned, no matter how many guard we have, you will be the section leader. You most certainly earned that last year.
